Save with Federal Auto Auctions

The federal government consist of truly a multitude of different departments and agencies. These departments and agencies have different functions and subsequently varied asset holdings. These agencies manage the disposal of their assets on an ongoing basis - often by way of public auctions. You’ll find BIG car bargains here. Many of the Federal Government’s auctions are conducted and managed by the General Services Administration.

This independant agency provides a range of services to federal employees. Their remit also includes managing the gigantic fleet of vehicles owned by the federal government. This is more than two hundred thousand cars on the latest government report.

Pressure has recently been applied on the agency to modernise its fleet to more environmentally friendly vehicles. This may therefore mean that as more older cars are replaced with newer models, more federal auto auctions are held.

At present federal auto auctions take place often and in each and every State. This is not a static schedule, and the department reserves the right to announce changes in dates. More often than not there are more than a few auction in one day - this creates opportunity for bidders at a number of events (easy to take advantage of if some of them are held online)!

Time and again with many auctions, the public in general may not particpate. With the aim of creating opportunity for all, the federal agency allows everyone to particpate in the auctions - not just registered professionals.

Bidding on these vehicles can become very competitive and participants should be cautious of the risks of overpaying. At all times, ensure to do careful research before you start bidding. Doing this you will have a ‘benchmark price’ for a specific model and make, and therefore won’t run the risk of overbidding. To ensure you’ve doen a thorough job, one needs to do a vehicle inspection as allowed by the GSA - normally a couple of days before the event. Normally a few weeks or days prior to the auction day, they will let potential particpants inspect the cars. If you do this you will be able to accurately estimate in what condition the goods for sale are.

As opposed to what some may say, federal auto auctions still have great deals for car bargain hunters. Do good research and know what to expect and you’ll be, as they say on Wall Street, “IN THE MONEY”.
